V-77 alternator conversion

Has anyone got an approved 337 from a V-77 alternator conversion? We're putting one on mine and it would make life much simpler. Thanks. ggiddings@stny.rr.com Gavin Giddings

Re: V-77 alternator conversion

If you are using the Jasco alternator, you might check with Jasco. When I put one on my SM-8,10 years ago, they had 337's for R-680-9 &-13 engines. They might have STC for all Lycoming engines by now. They were applying for them then
If it will help, I have a 337 for installation on my 680-17. Good luck

Andy Jones progressing well

Well,
I frequent this site regularly and am convinced there are few Gullwing guys with computers. Truth is, compared to many other production planes, Reliants are just rare birds.
Just wanted to report that I had a pleasant visit out in Seattle (Arlington) with Andy Jones. His SR-9c is progressing quite well. A couple years ago he came to a hault and I wondered if he was going to get going again. Finally, he's a busy bee. The fus is nearly ready for cover. All the wings and tail feathers have been finished and a local shop is covering the seats and other cabin fixtures with a nice set of leather hides. I'm looking forward to seeing this beautiful ship fly! Keep up the good work Andy!!

Enjoyed the site. Photo 13902 brought back memories. When I was 12 years

old, 66 years ago, I built that model (balsa wood and paper with a rubber

band driven motor)except the color was blue. I won first place at a local

hobby store with the model. However, aviation was not to be my undertaking

- I became a submariner. Just taking a trip back memory lane. Thanks for

the opportunity.

Whereabouts of SR-5

I came upon your site somewhat by accident, but it does hold a great deal

of interest for me. In 1935 my father bought a new SR-5 from the Stinson

factory, and flew it for several years. Perhaps the most memorable of his

adventures in the airplane was a trip he made to Mexico City, which was no

small trip in those times. The airplane was ultimately owned by a man

named Gary Wilson who moved it to PHL. I last saw the airplane, painted

white with red trim, in about 1990, in some T hangers across from the Delta

Air Lines gate area in PHL. I subsequently lost track of him and the

airplane. Does anyone know of its whereabouts? Thanks, Harry Ballance

Spinner and Avgas STC's for Lycoming R680

Does anyone know where I can find an STC'd kit for a spinner (type you

usually see on many V77's/ R985's / Beech Staggerwings) for the R680 engine

/ Ham Standard prop?

I'd also like to know if there is an autofuel STC for the 300Hp R680. I saw

a Stearman in Trade a Plane that had the 225 HP R680 and it was STC'd for

autofuel.

Any comments on 100LL vs autofuel?

Stinson SM-1 Detroiter

Hi everybody,

***Where can I find photos and/or drawings of the instrument panel and the

cabin arrangement of a late production SM-1 Detroiter?

***Apparently "Dark Maroon" with a "Diana Cream" (Berryloid paint chart)was

the standard finish for the early Detroiter. Was it the same for the late

models or were they other liveries possible?

***I am also searching photos of the Texas Air Transport Detroiters and

those of Northway Flying Service? All informations on these planes would

also be warmly welcome.

Two Stinson Found

Returning home to the Pacific NW after three weeks in the Katrina mess, I

decided I needed some R&R. Heading off to one of my favortie haunts to take

pictures of Beavers, I discovered an odd looking bird, sitting in tall

grass, no prop, in need of some TLC. Not being being able to get close

enough to get numbers, I decided to put it on my to do list to chase down

the owners, when I was more motivated.

Heading off to a seaplane operation at the other end of the lake I noticed

a similar wing configuration on a plane tucked away in their repair area,

also missing a prop. I could see on the tail "Stinson Reliant" logo. She

looked pretty sharp on her floats, now more interested in the one in tall

grass to see if what her owners plans for her might be. I need to to learn

more about the SR's now too. Great site!

My Father-In-Law's Airplane!

Wow! Cool! I found N9184H! My father-in-law, Harold Green, was the

original buyer of that airplane when it was sold into the civilian market

after WWII. He bought it in 1946 for $2000. He restored it, but on one of

his first flights ground-looped while landing and his wife said "either the

plane goes or I go!" Obviously, it was the plane that went. All he kept

was the original propeller, which I now have.

Reliant time in 1938.Looking for Roy Ryder

Roy flew a Reliant for White Flying Service in Caldwell, NJ in the late
'30s. During the war he was testing TBFs out of Trenton. After the war he
flew a converted B-25 as a test platform for new avionics for Bendix out of
Teterboro. The Reliant he & I flew had a half Y central control column. The
wheel could be swung over to the co-pilot, like on the Stinson tri-motor.
Anybody know of Roy? Anybody seen this control configuration on a Reliant?
